I’m Emma,

a Clinical Psychologist specialising in CBT

Not only is Emma a BABCP accredited CBT therapist but she is a senior and experienced clinical psychologist.  Clinical psychologists are trained in the NHS in a wide range of evidence based psychological treatment models. Emma can provide a psychological assessment to consider whether CBT or another psychological treatment model is the best fit for you.

CBT is based on the theory that unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours impact on the way we feel.  It can be helpful for a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression and trauma.  If you are struggling with these issues or those listed below, contact Dr Emma Arora for a free consultation today to find out if CBT could be helpful for you.

Do you struggle with unhelpful negative thoughts about yourself, others and the world?  Do you engage in unhelpful coping mechanisms which only make the problem worse?  Would you prefer a more structured and goals orientated approach to therapy focusing more on the present than the past?  If so, CBT might be a good fit for you.  Contact Emma today to book your free consultation.

What is CBT? And is it the right therapy for you?

What CBT Therapy is used for:

CBT for Anxiety

CBT can help with a range of anxiety issues from more generalised anxiety to more specific types of anxiety such as social or health anxiety. Developing a CBT formulation will map out unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours keeping anxiety going. CBT will target these areas helping you develop a range of tools which can equip you in becoming your own therapist in the future.

CBT for Depression

CBT can help with low mood and depression. CBT for depression will focus on changing negative thinking patterns and unhelpful coping behaviours.  CBT for depression can equip you with tools to improve your mood and move forward in your life.

CBT for OCD

CBT (including Exposure Response Prevention) is an effective therapy for OCD. It can help in managing triggers and moving forward in reducing compulsive behaviours and avoidance. CBT can be helpful in addressing thinking patterns that are common in OCD.  CBT for OCD can help you work towards your goals and reduce the impact of intrusive thoughts, starting to see them for what they are… just thoughts.

CBT for PTSD

CBT is one of a range of model Dr Emma uses in working with trauma.  It’s based on the idea that unhelpful thoughts and behaviours can maintain symptoms of PTSD. Trauma focused CBT (Tf-CBT) includes work on trauma memories that are frozen in time, meaning you they are being triggered in your daily life. CBT can be helpful in working with trauma, moving forward with you goals and reclaiming your life.

CBT for Bipolar Disorder & Psychosis

CBT can also be very helpful for complex mental health issues including bipolar or psychosis. CBT can be helpful in managing mood, voices, paranoia and unusual beliefs to help you move forward towards your goals. It may be helpful to work with a multidisciplinary team (MDT) in the NHS if a range of interventions (e.g. medication) are required.

“Emma didn't just offer techniques and strategies; she took the time to explain the intricacies of my condition and how it manifested in my life. Through this understanding, I was able to identify compulsions that I didn't even realise I was engaging in.”
